Who is VITO BONSIGNORE?


image id=41He was born on the 3rd of July 1943 in Bronte, Sicily and grew up in Turin. Vito Bonsignore moved to Turin when he was 18 years old.

He graduated in Business and Economics and started his career as an entrepreneur in Turin.  Within a few years he fulfilled several important roles such as Manager and CEO for the Highway Turin-Alessandria-Piacenza and was appointed Board Member for IMI (Public Institution for Credit) and INSUD S.p.a. In due course he became Managing Director for the Turin-Milan Highway company.

Vito Bonsignore did all this without diverting from his "greater passion” politics. He has been city Councilman of Venaria Reale(To) from 1970 to 1980, Deputy at the Italian Parliament for two mandates and Under-Secretary for the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning during the first Government led by Giuliano Amato (1992-1993). He was a member of the Central Coordination (DC). Today he is one of the founders of the Popolo della Libertà (PDL).

At the European Parliament he is currently the Vice-President of the EPP-ED Group responsible for:

- Relationships within the EPP-ED Groups inside the National Parliaments;
- Delegation EPP-ED to the APEM
- Relationships between the Countries within the Mediterranean area;
- Relationships between the Countries involved in the Enlargement of the Balkans;
- Dialogue with Islam;
- Vice-President of the Delegation responsible for relationships with the United States of America

In the last European elections was re-elected with over 53,000 preferences and confirmed Vice President of the EPP in the European Parliament.

He is currently a member of:
- Special Committee on the financial, Economic and Social Crisis (responsible for the EPP Group)
- Delegation for relations with the Mashreq countries
- Delegation to the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly
Vito Bonsignore is a substitute member of:
-    Committee on Budgets
-    Committee on Fisheries
-    Delegation to the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee
